"Best in Traditional Cajun Dance Music on Tap Sept. 6 at Pawtucket Arts Festival" Driving rhythm, hot musicianship and the best in traditional Cajun dance music are on tap Sept. 6, when Cajun band Magnolia will perform during the Pawtucket Arts Festival. Dance lessons will be given at 7:30 p.m., and Magnolia’s high-energy Cajun two-steps and sensuous waltzes will take place from 8 p.m.-11 p.m.
Magnolia is in its 18th year of Cajun dance entertainment. The two CDs that the band has recorded (C’est What? and Jolie Coeur) have been nominated for the Prix Dehors de Nous Award by the Cajun French Music Association in Louisiana. Translated as “Prize given to those outside of us,” the association’s award recognizes outstanding Cajun performers from outside of Louisiana.
“The band’s twin fiddles, accordion, guitar, percussion and French vocals get folks off their seats and onto the dance floor,” said Michelle Kaminsky. “And they stay there long into the night. They come to love the unofficial slogan of the city of New Orleans: ‘L’aissez le bon temps roulez!’ Your feet will do the translating: ‘Let the good times roll!’”
Admission is $14 ($7 for members of the LeFoyer Club). Under 18 will be admitted free. Snacks and a cash bar will be available. Established in 1936, the LeFoyer Club is a non-profit organization, that has become a true center of French culture, serving the Americans of French descent living within the twin communities of Pawtucket and Central Falls, Rhode Island. The LeFoyer Club proudly sponsors this event. |
